One of the most common of electric scooter parts in need of replacement, the CDI module is as essential to the scooter ignition system as the spark plug. Thought to be an invention of the brilliant Nikola Tesla, the Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) is the standard system used on most of today’s gas-powered motor scooters, as well as on many motorcycles, marine outboards and other small engines. A complete CDI module is made up of a transformer, the charging circuit, the rectifier, a capacitor, and the trigger circuit.
How the CDI Module Works
The transformer first raises the voltage to 400 to 600 volts. Moving along the charging circuit, the electric current charges the capacitor, with the rectifier preventing the capacitor from discharging before the ignition point. Receiving the triggering signal, the trigger circuit stops charging and allows the capacitor to discharge to the low inductance ignition coil. This increases the original 400-600 Volt capacitor discharge to as much as 40 kV at the secondary winding, jumping the spark plug gap, and igniting the gas/air mixture in the cylinder. The charging circuit is then reconnected and resumes charging the capacitor all over again.
AC or DC?
Most current scooters us an alternating current (AC) system; however the popular KYMCO scooter brand uses direct current (DC). As a result, electric scooter parts for KYMCO machines, including the CDI module, can sometimes be difficult to find.
Engine Size
It is always best to match the engine size to the CDI specifications. A CDI module made for a 50cc engine might work on a 100cc, 125cc, or 150cc engine, and some are designed to function over a range of engine sizes. Others however, will only work for a particular engine displacement. Always check the specifications to be sure of getting the correct scooter ignition parts.
2-stroke and 4-stroke Scooter Ignition
The 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines are completely different, and as a result, their engines’ ignition timing is totally different as well. You cannot use a CDI made for a 2-stroker on a 4-stroke scooter. Conversely, you cannot use a 4-stroke scooter’s CDI on a 2-stroke scooter.
Connectors
On many current CDIs, the connectors are integral to the unit’s case, forming a plug that snaps directly on to the scooter’s wiring harness. On other models, the connectors may be located on wires, allowing some leeway on exactly where the module is mounted. The skillful mechanic may shorten or lengthen these wires as necessary. The most common CDI connector style uses two plugs side by side; one 4-pin plug, and a 2-pin plug. These connectors may be square, rectangular, or simple spades.
Note: Photo illustrations of many CDI connectors can be seen at the website listed at the bottom of this article.
Unrestricted or Restricted?
An unrestricted (or racing) CDI provides the current no matter how high the engine RPMs go. As the CDI controls the spark plug, the plug will continue to fire at high RPM. For reasons that should be obvious, these CDI units are made for racing use, and are not very suitable for regular highway use. A restricted CDI module however, will stop firing once a pre-set engine RPM is attained. Without current reaching the spark plug, the engine RPMs slow to below the pre-set limit and only then will the CDI resume providing current to the plug.
When replacing a CDI module, or any other scooter ignition or electric scooter parts, it is always a good idea to reference your owner’s manual. If the manual is lost or otherwise missing, many manufacturers and brands have downloadable manuals available on their websites.

| Tips on How to Get Cheap Electric Scooters |
4 May |
Due to the increase of the cost of oil it is nothing new that people are going for car alternatives. Some go for hydraulic cars and some go for those rechargeable cars. But the most famous alternative to cars is scooters, to be specific electric scooters.
As the popularity of electric scooters begin to increase, suppliers have made a lot of changes to their items and keep of making changes to ensure that the customer demand is reached. Usually, these changes are improvements but mostly they are just new designs. If calculations are correct, these changes will go on and make electric scooters the most popular vehicles within the next ten to fifteen years.
Due to the customer demand, these electric scooters have become very affordable now. Back in my time, a scooter costs three times more than what is costs now. That’s really expensive! Due to its affordability mostly even can afford to buy a scooter for three-hundred dollars.
Don’t worry; you’re not risking quality over price. These cheap priced scooters include the finest and newest technologies that are available. These include new safety improvements such as headlights, brake lights and signal indicators also.
Have you ever thought of going for a conversion scooter? It’s a scooter that has a seat which can be removed. You may ride it either sitting down or standing up. Just attach its seat then you’re off. There are still various kinds of cheap electric scooters to choose from. There are scooters that may just be the best for you it just depends on your needs or wants.
Now how about speed? Manufacturers have thought of that before you did so do not worry. Even those cheap variations of scooters can go as high as twenty-five to thirty miles per hour. Of course, this also depends on how heavy the weight is for the scooters and where you’re travelling to. Wrapping it up, the word cheap actually does not describe the scooter itself but only the price.

| What is an Electric Trike? |
22 Apr |
Electric trikes are a form of three wheeled vehicle that utilizes an electric engine for propulsion. A trike is a shortened form of the word tricycle and typically refers to a three wheel cycle. There are three main variations of trike design in the world. These three types are Upright, Recumbent Delta, and the Recumbent Tadpole.
An upright trike is the design that some adult trikes and most child sized trikes are designed around. Recumbent delta trikes are tricycles that allow the rider to sit much more naturally as though they are riding in a leaned-back chair. The delta version has a single wheel in the front and two in the back. The recumbent tadpole trikes are similar in design to the recumbent delta. The only main difference is that there are two wheels in the front and a single wheel in the back.
The motorization of these trikes is quite popular with many varied designs based on each primary style. The most common type of electric trike is recumbent in design. The recumbent tadpole is considered the best in terms of balance, steerage, and safety. However, the recumbent delta style is still very popular.
There are two basic types of battery style for electric trikes. These types are quick swap and non-quick swap. A quick swap trike allows for batteries to be swapped out rapidly so that they can continually use a fresh battery as the old one runs down. In this vein a weaker electric trike that can go upward of ten miles on a single charge without peddling would be able to double its distance simply by carrying a second charged battery. A non-quick swap battery style means that it takes a little time and effort to swap batteries. The ability to change batteries will still exist but it is not nearly as swift in procedure as the quick swap variety.
The types of electric trike vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some of the lower end electric trikes (such as the Gomier Electric Tike) will cost around a thousand dollars American and have a general traveling capacity of eight to ten miles per charge. However, there are higher end Upright types that can be found for a similar price that can perform twice this capacity. There are also higher end versions that are double the capacity and cost nearly twice as much such as the eZee Carro electric tricycle.
The prices and styles vary wildly, but the end result is a vehicle that does not need to use fossil fuels and is fun to ride. Further, if an owner of such a vehicle does not wish to expend their battery they can simply pedal on their own. This makes it the perfect vehicle if you are not in a rush, as battery life can be extended quite a bit and you never have to worry about the engine dying on you as long as you have the will to pedal.

| Ezip 900 Electric Scooter – A Fun Look at the Ezip 900 |
23 Feb |
We bought our 14 year old son an Ezip 900 electric scooter, as a last ditch effort to get him out of the house! He had admired one that his best friend had, so we surprised him with it on Christmas morning. He seemed real excited about it, and now that he has ridden it for a couple of months, we have had a chance to evaluate it’s many features and qualities.
First of all, I must admit that I caught the “bug”, and now I ride the Ezip 900 myself! It handles my weight easily, as it has a weight capacity of 240 lbs. The relatively high weight capacity explains it’s popularity with older kids and adults.
When I first heard that it has a top speed of 15 mph, it didn’t sound particularly fast to me. However, now that I have ridden it, 15 mph is PLENTY fast. It does a good job of pulling me up hills, too.
We have several parks and stores near our home, not to mention several of my son’ friends. The scooter is perfect for reaching those destinations, so we don’t have to drive the car.
It actually has a range of up to 12 miles on a charge, and can run continuously for up to 40 minutes. I find that I can ride it for most of the afternoon, if I stop fairly often.
The battery pack has 24 volts, and takes about 6 hours to re-charge. I generally re-charge it overnight. The Ezip 900 electric scooter has a smooth ride thanks to it’s twin suspension fork, and 12 inch, street slick tires.
The front disc brakes provide sure, crisp braking, regardless of the terrain. This model looks sharp, too, with polished 5 spoke mag wheels. The deck consists of wide, 9-inch, extra thick ABS material which resists cracking.
I must say, though, that I feel a touch guilty about riding my son’s Ezip 900 so much. I guess I’ll just have to “break down” and get one for myself
| Cheap Electric Scooters Don’t Have to Be “Cheap” |
13 Feb |
I needed a way to get around my college campus, so I decided to look at cheap electric scooters. I had not been around ANY type of scooter for years, so I didn’t know what they cost, or what kind of features they had. I must say that after I shopped around awhile, I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable they are, and how many cool features they have.
First, let me identify what I mean by “cheap electric scooters”. I needed a scooter powerful enough to lug my 190 lbs around, and fast enough to get me to my classes and dorm quickly.
Consequently, it had to be a model that was made for adults, as well as older kids. I looked at several models that fit those requirements, that cost well under 300.00!
I was shocked that you could buy relatively sophisticated transportation for under 300.00. These were not cheaply made, either. The had tensile steel frames, mag wheels, disc brakes, extra wide decks, and solid welds.
They were heavy enough to be sturdy, yet not so heavy as to be hard to control.
I was impressed with their speed as well. Most of the models had at least 500 watt motors, and could reach speeds of between 15-20mph, depending on the size of the rider.
It seemed that riding them would be fun, too, as they had twist grip throttles and hand held brakes.
What was particularly important to me was how far you could ride on a single charge of the battery. Most of these cheap electric scooters could run between 30-40 minutes continuously on a single charge!
With my frequent stops and starts, that would be enough “juice to last me the whole day!
PERFECT!

For kids from 5 to 8, for example, 100 watt equipment is most perfect. This is, however, generally smaller for one who is already 8 years old.
A common feature among almost, if not, all of them is their hard and solid wheels. Some people, however, end up blaming the lack of knowledge on the nature of such wheels. When they are used in rough surfaces, there is a higher tendency for the wheels to get chewed up, which have to be removed sometime after. The most basic scooters have the capacity to deal with up to 120lbs and sometimes even up to 200lbs. The most recommended for these kids scooters is nothing more than 60 to 70lbs.
For kids from 6 to 14, there are recommendations tilting towards the use of 250 watt kids electric scooters. These scooters have rubber tires with inner-tubes. The result is a smoother ride and a tire that lasts longer. The 350 watt scooter is definitely nothing close to a disappointment for mature and responsible kids. Older kids are never going to outgrow the 500 watt scooters.
| Electric Dominates The Latest Frankfurt Motor Show |
23 Dec |
The most notable automobile trade show globally, the Frankfurt Motor Show, began on September 17 and was host to up to eight hundred exhibitors from thirty countries. The biennially held trade show in Frankfurt, referred to as ‘A Moving Experience’ this year, is a place for car companies to put on view their innovative technology and concept cars, widely identifying the potential outlook of the worldwide automotive industry. More than that, it is also a gathering to consult on ideas based on themes like this year’s major subjects ‘Mobility concepts of the future’ and ‘Sustainable mobility in large metropolitan areas’. Furthermore, it is a opportunity for regions growing in the automobile business to put on view their cars and increase precious time in the spotlight, with slots designated to countries like Slovakia.
The present Frankfurt Motor Show had an exceptional number of worldwide launches from sixty-two participating car companies, with the German OEMs alone launching fifty-five latest models. The trade show incorporates the full variety of segments and includes several phenomenal cars on show, but the main focus stayed on innovations to cut carbon emissions and fresh, greener technology. Nearly every car companies had some representation of an electric or hybrid car on show, some more prominent than others.
Toyota made public its target for a different, plug-in Prius, one of the most established hybrid cars around the planet. The principal idea for the debut of this car is to check the climate for electric cars and not immediate mass manufacturing, like many electric car companies like Nissan. The plug-in Prius will be able to cruise twelve miles per charge and will revert to its standard hybrid behavior after the battery runs out. Toyota plans to take advantage of market statistics obtained from these cars to achieve a infallible strategy in the subsequent three years.
One of the several electrifying concept cars that made its debut at the event was the Volkswagen model called L1 due to its capacity to cruise one hundred kilometers on around a liter of fuel. With its fabrication and look based on minor diesel utilization, the L1 is a modern category of two-seater automobiles, with the driver and back seat one behind another. Produced out of robust carbon-fiber material the extremely aerodynamic car is absolutely safe for both passenger and driver and is very low on carbon emissions. Despite being produced on an absolutely fresh design, Volkswagen claims that it is bordering on production.
Another sportier, yet equally exceptional concept car at the program was the Audi R8 E-Tron. The E-Tron is totally run on electric energy and has four motors to give superb all-wheel drive performance. It delivers on energy also with a 313 horsepower engine that can mange a velocity of up to sixty mile per hour in five seconds. Its exterior is spectacular with uniquely shaped headlights. Much like Toyota, Audi aims on deploying the E-Tron to investigate the electric car’s viability.
With a multitude of hybrid and electric cars on exhibit, the event has reaffirmed the fuel effective and environmentally friendly opportunity for cars. According to a variety of analysts the pace with which these cars are accepted relies principally on the power of car makers to sell both low carbon emissions and fuel efficiency without lowering the overall power of these cars. The success of these cars will principally be determined after the prevalent crisis comes to an end, a certainty that may well take a noteworthy number of years to occur.
