Sales on Audis at Denver, Colorado-Based Used Car Dealer Increase Due To High Safety Ratings 9
Mar

Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) August 10, 2007

When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released a new study recently that rated how 2007 vehicle models held up in various crash scenarios, the Audi A4 and A6 received high marks.

Since that study was released, sales of used A4 and A6 Audi models have increased at Colorado Auto Finders, said Ali Awada, who founded the business in 2001.

In June, the used car dealer sold at least 15 Audis, most of which were the A6, a large luxury sedan, he said. On a lot that maintains about 120 vehicles, that is significant.

“I’m constantly purchasing Audis for the dealership to sell because they are in high demand,” Awada said.

The Institute gave the Audi A6 a “good” overall rating, which is its highest rating, according to the institutes’s Web site. The institute found that the A6′s performance was good in front, side and rear tests and standard electronic stability control.

For the third straight year, the A6 received a good rating in frontal offset tests, which rate driver-side occupant compartment intrusion and driver injury; and side-impact tests, which measure structure damage and driver and passenger injury.

In the mid-sized car category, the A4 fared equally well. It also received the “good” rating. It has been rated “good” since 2002 in frontal offset and side impact tests.

Those tests results mean a lot to customers at Colorado Auto Finders, Awada said.

“We get a lot of family-minded customers and for them, safety is the most important consideration when purchasing a vehicle,” he said. “They really do their homework and follow the news regarding automobile safety issues.”

Because of that, Colorado Auto Finders works continuously to respond to customers’ demand for safe, quality used vehicles.

If you are looking for a luxury vehicle that will be safe for you and your family without paying new vehicle prices, visit Colorado Auto Finders at 2200 S. Parker Rd. in Denver. You can reach them by phone locally at (303) 636-9000, or toll free at (877) 636-9002. Or visit them online at www.CoAutoFinders.com.

Loud Pipes Not Necessary For Safe Motorcycling 28
Feb

I’m not even going to get into the argument about whether or not “loud pipes save lives.” There are plenty of thousands of riders of a certain American-made motorcycles who will swear to that mantra, while a good many researchers will testify to the contrary.

For an awful lot of bikes on the road, however, it’s a moot point. If you’re riding something like a Suzuki GSX-R600 or a Kawasaki Ninja 650R, or perhaps doing some long-distance cruising on a Yamaha FJR1300, you’re not going to be rattling windows or announcing to everyone within a three-block radius that “I’m out here and you’d better watch out for me.”

Nope. Those three bikes, as well as all their siblings, are a bit more quiet. (For which your neighbors thank you profusely.) And yet, every day millions of motorcyclists ply the streets and highways on these quiet bikes and return safely to their families in the evening. Which is to say, despite what the hog crowd will tell you about noise, it isn’t mandatory for a safe ride.

What is mandatory is rider awareness. You’ve got to be a defensive driver to the max. What’s that car in the next lane going to do? Is that oncoming car possibly going to turn left right in my path? Is that soccer mom in the van behind me going to see my brake light while she’s busy yelling at the kids in the back seat?

While you have no control over their behavior, you do have absolute control over what you do. And what you’ve got to do is compensate for other people’s inattention. The easiest way to approach it is simply to tell yourself that you’re invisible. Think about it. How would you ride differently if you actually were invisible? You’d be constantly on the alert for everything going on around you. You’d choose the lane position that gave you the most room to get out of the way if someone started encroaching on your space. You wouldn’t count on that driver noticing you; you’d put yourself in a position where he can’t do you any harm, whether that means speeding up, slowing down, or whatever.

Here’s an example, a true story.

I was on the interstate one morning going through an interchange. There was a steady stream of cars coming on in the merge lane so I moved to the left. With all those cars bunched up in the right-hand lane I knew at least a few of them were going to want to move to the left lane where they could pick up some speed. And I had no trust whatsoever that they were going to do so in a safe manner.

I was already at highway speed so I was going faster than they were, which means I was going to be passing them. As I came up on each one I blipped the throttle just as I came into their blind spot in order to get through it as quickly as possible, and kept my eyes on the driver. After safely passing a couple I had my eyes on the next guy and I saw him check his mirror just as I knew I was in his blind spot. He did not do a head check, that is, turn his head to see what might be back there.

“OK,” I thought, “here he comes.” I cranked the throttle hard and rocketed forward. He began to move into the left lane but just as he did he saw me blasting past him and he swerved sharply back into his own lane. I was never in any danger because I knew exactly what was going on at all times. Hopefully he told himself he’d better do head checks in the future and not just trust a glance in the mirror.

I’ll be honest. This is one time when I thought that if I was on a loud motorcycle he might have heard me and this encounter would not have occurred. But my Kawasaki Concours is not a loud bike and it never will be. So I stay alert. And somehow I stay alive every day I ride this bike, even without loud pipes.

Reliable Handheld Automotive Diagnostics for VW and Audi Models
Beginning in the 1980s new vehicles began to be wired with a variety of computerized diagnostic systems designed to improve efficiencies, simplify troubleshooting and minimize the need for repairs. These systems produce indicators known as diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) internally, usually indicating something out of the ordinary by illuminating the "check engine"/malfunction indicator light (MIL) on the dashboard of your car. In the 1990s these systems, codes and the hardware connectors used to access them were standardized in North America as OBD (onboard diagnostics) and later OBD-II. Europe uses the equivalent EOBD, but Volkswagen and Audi vehicles also use another diagnostic standard system, VAG. Unofficially this acronym can be taken to stand for "Volkswagen Audi Group."

Everything you need for basic automotive diagnostic code reading for Volkswagen and Audis.

The Roadi RDT45 VAG basic diagnostic scan tool is specially designed to work with most Volkswagen and Audis sold worldwide beginning in 1990. If your VW/AUDI model has a 16-pin OBD-II style Data Link Connector(DTC), the RDT45 code reader will certainly work. If it has an old-style 2x2 Data Link Connector (DTC), then it depends on whether there are 4 or 3 wires connecting to the pins. If there are 4 wires, each connecting a pin, then it will work. If there are only 3 wires, leaving one pin disconnected, then it will not. To use, simply plug the RDT45 code reader cable connector into the corresponding data port in your vehicle, usually located near the dashboard or gearshift, while the engine is off. Then switch the ignition on and scroll to the right menu option users can gain access to generic and vehicle specific VAG and OBD-II codes related primarily to the engine, transmission, airbag and ABS systems that trigger MIL events. Definitions for the DTCs can be found in your manual or via the CD definitions lists in on the CD included. Additional features include a USB cable for updating your computer-based definitions list and a nylon carrying case.

KTM X-Bow

KTM X-Bow – Click above for high-res image gallery

Long ago, we told you that the KTM X-Bow was coming to the United States in street-legal form. Now, the magic moment is upon us – the Audi-powered, carbon fiber X-Bow is available now as a special construction vehicle kit car through British Racing Group, LLC.

The X-Bow is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged Audi four-cylinder with direct injection, good for 240 horsepower. While 240 hp isn’t exactly astronomical by anyone’s standards, the X-Bow’s Formula 1-style carbon fiber monocoque chassis means it’ll shoot to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds. This lightweight chassis also helps the X-Bow pull 1.5g on a skidpad if you’re running track tires. When you finally manage to terrify yourself and your passenger, as you inevitably will, huge Brembo brakes will bring you to a halt from 60 mph in just 99 feet.

To get the car legal for stateside use, KTM has to import the X-Bow as a kit car, which means supplying the Audi powerplant is up to you. To get your hands on one, contact British Racing Group, where you’ll get an estimated purchase price proposal from one of the customer relations specialists.

Audi A6 ? Best used car on the road 25
Feb

What car would I say is the best used car on the road? It would have to be the Audi A6. Why, I hear you ask? Well, being an Audi owner, I can vouch for the performance and luxury built into these beautiful cars. I have owned a few cars in the past from various manufacturers and I can honestly say that out of all of them, I have had the least trouble mixed with the best performance from the Audi A6.

Looking at Audis historically, the one that sticks out the most – in my mind anyway – is the Audi Quattro. Those powerful rally cars used to own the track, screaming round corners and kicking up gravel at spectators as they passed! The developments Audi have made over the years are evident in both their rally and road cars – they have made improvements without losing the power and precision behind the wheel. Their road cars are of course a bit more luxurious than the rally Quattro – no sign of a roll-cage in my little beauty! Joking aside, the A6 is sleek, stylish and a real pleasure to drive at any speed. The space inside is awesome too – the whole family fits comfortably and no one ever complains!

One of the best choices I made was to buy an Audi A6 over a BMW or Merc. These three makes of car are equally renowned for their style, sophistication, luxury and performance – but the Audi A6 comes without the hefty price tag! OK, they’re not exactly cheap either, but they definitely don’t hurt your wallet as much as the others. Personally I opted for a used Audi, which knocks about another £10,000 of the price tag.

One of the greatest features of an Audi is that the well-built structure will stand the test of time. I have had my Audi A6 for three years now and I have had zero problems with it. The trick is to buy a used car where any potential problems have been ‘ironed out’ by the previous owner, rather than created by them. So choose your used Audi wisely – not every owner is as careful as me! With an Audi A6, you’re unlikely to encounter ‘potential problems’ anyway because they’re so reliable. They come with a reputation – and not the kind that’s associated with Citroen Saxos or Vauxhall Novas! Audi A6 drivers are respected for their choice of car, and quite rightly so because it really is the best used car on the road.
