Live Life to the Fullest on a Motorcycle 17
Apr

Taking a trip on a motorcycle is a vibrant activity. Not only do you get to enjoy the scenery like no other way, you will awaken all of your senses. Taking trips in automobiles, recreational vehicles, planes, and buses is great, but they cannot compare to the experience you have on a motorcycle.

Raking Up the Memories
When you ride, you will be able to smell America. You will feel all the bumps, the potholes and other obstacles that the road throws your way. People ask, “Why torture yourself when you can travel in luxury?” The answer is simple. The memories you obtain from a motorcycle trip will more than pay for any discomfort you may encounter.

Bad Weather Adds to the Memories
Traveling by motorcycle, you get to experience nature as it unfolds. Heat, cold, wind and rain will embellish your trip. Some say it ruins a trip, but does it really.

I remember the first ride my husband and I took on our new motorcycles. We started out in cold weather hoping it would get warmer. It did not. Instead, it got colder and a light drizzle set in, making things more uncomfortable. However, we were on a mission. We were on our first toy ride to deliver toys to kids who may not have had a toy without all the motorcycle riders who volunteered. The fact that we endured cold wind, rain, and misery only burned the memory into our brains and made for an unforgettable trip.

Become One with the Trip
When you are traveling on motorcycles, planning is essential. (Trust me, I learned this the hard way.) Mastering or at least enduring the obstacles that the weather, the roads, and gather the courage to push yourself to limits makes for memories that will be unforgettable.

With motorcycle riding, you are not a mere observer of a trip. You are the trip and every bounce, bump and bruise proves it. Riding a motorcycle allows you to enjoy the trip as you go and it give you more details to share with your friends and associates. By riding, you make an adventure out of an ordinary sightseeing tour.

Motorcycle riding is the adventure that will make you live, love, laugh and smile like you never have before. While there is nothing wrong with traveling by more conventional ways, motorcycle riding will restore you to the memories of being young again. Ride to live, and revive your life.

2011 Audi RS5 – Click above for high-res image gallery

Good news, Quattroheads: Audi has just unloaded a boatload of new images of the RS5 coupe in red, white and blue doing its thing all over some beautiful roads in Europe. We feel the need to point out where these shots were snapped simply because the German automaker has not yet announced any plans to bring its ubercoupe Stateside. And we therefore shed a tear.

Then again, maybe there’s hope after all – we have heard rumors that Audi was at least considering blessing us Americans with the RS5… though nothing substantiated by any other reliable sources. In any case, it’s always a good time to gaze upon 4.2 wonderful liters of naturally aspirated goodness with 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque sent to all four wheels, right? Right. So go ahead and click through the high-res image gallery below.

Volkswagen and Stanford’s Autonomous Vehicle Program – Click above for high-res image gallery

Yesterday at Stanford University, the world’s valets were put on notice. The crew at Volkswagen’s Vehicle Innovation Lab (VAIL) hosted an event for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, where the diplomat from Deutschland got to see first-hand what VW has been working on for the past five years, and what kind of practical implementations are around the corner.

The VAIL team was the first group to complete the DARPA Grand Challenge with a fully autonomous Touareg that scaled over 130 miles of the Mojave Desert in 2005. The original self-driven vehicle, Stanley, has evolved into Stanley 2, a Passat wagon with enough computing power to completely fill the boot. That vehicle took second place at an urban course for the 2007 DARPA Challenge and now that technology has been scaled down, refined and put into another diesel-powered Passat to show off one of the many uses for the autonomous tech.

After Merkel caught a plane home and the crowds subsided, we scored a ride in the self-propelled Passat and discovered that the days of parking attendants are officially numbered.

‘Joneses’ mixes sexy, sad, silly in consumerism – Fri, 16 Apr 2010 PST
There’s something about The Joneses. Their two-parent, two-teenager nuclear-family perfection – complete with shiny teeth and sexy, toned bodies – would be intimidating, if they weren’t so cool, so casual. It’s as if they’re designed to fit in, to succeed, to become role models.

Leather Motorcycle Jackets – The Importance of Choosing the Right Size 16
Apr

When you purchase a new motorcycle jacket, there are a number of factors that you probably try to emphasize on to make sure you get the perfect item, and perhaps one of the more important factors that you must think about when making a purchase is the size of the jacket. This is very important for a number of reasons including the fact that the right size will provide you with the most comfort, and it will prevent you from having to purchase another jacket in the near future.

Having a comfortable jacket while your riding your motorcycle jacket is very important because it plays a part in keeping you focused while riding because you won’t be distracted by improper sleeve lengths and tight fitting shoulders or waste lines, which would be the case if you didn’t purchase the right size. The sleeve length should be just right so that your sleeves extend out over your wrists while your sitting in the riding position. They should not be pulled half way up your arms, which would leave your skin exposed and would not provide you with the most comfort. The shoulders should be roomy enough so that the jacket does not wrap tightly around them when in the sitting position. This will give you enough freedom to move in different directions without being constrained. You should not half to suck in your stomach in order for the jacket to fit properly. This would also create an uncomfortable riding situation and could increase your level of distraction, which obviously takes away from your ability to focus on rider safety.

Purchase the right size leather motorcycle jacket can end up saving you in the long run. Let’s say you purchase a jacket that’s just a little too tight, but you figure it’s good enough and don’t want to worry about exchanging it. Well, chances are that in the near future, you’re going to decide that the jacket just doesn’t fit right and by that time it may be too late to exchange it for a different size. In this case you would be out of luck and would have to spend more money to get the right size you should have gotten in the first place. This can be avoided simply by taking the time to make sure you have the proper fitting leather motorcycle jacket.

If you’re shopping for a new leather motorcycle jacket, don’t be afraid to take your time with the it and make sure that the one you find is perfect for you so that you can get the most comfort out of it, and you don’t have to spend more money down the road to get a new one.

2011 Audi A8 L arrives with 500-hp W12, seating for a king-maker 16

2011 Audi A8 L – Click above for high-res image gallery

Audi is pulling out its biggest gun yet for the Beijing Motor Show, and while the big news for the A8 L might be the 6.3-liter W12 and the sedan’s longer wheelbase, it’s the rear seat accommodations that have us frothing at the mouth.

Seriously, just look at it.

With an overall length of nearly 17 and a half feet, the A8 L is almost a half-foot longer than its standard sibling, with a wheelbase of 10.24 feet. Those extra inches are put to good effect, with an interior that’s enough to make a Maybach look downright spartan.

Open the lengthened rear doors and occupants are greeted by acres of leather, a full-length center console and two power-adjustable, heated and ventilated seats that not only move fore and aft, but include adjustments for cushion depth, lumbar support and seat back angle. Ten remote-controlled air-bladders massage your cares away, and if the front passenger seat – with its power-adjustable folding ottoman – cramps your style, you can move it forward with the flick of a switch.

The standard four-zone automatic climate control is manipulated by no less than 25 adjustable motors, and the massive center tunnel contains everything from a folding table to a refrigerator. It’s all first-class, from the ambient lighting to the Valonea leather, and when the time comes to put the laptop away, crank up the 1,400-watt, 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System and enjoy a movie on one of the two 10.2-inch LCD displays.

If you’re ready to give your chauffeur a rest, take solace in the fact that the W12 puts out 500 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque through Audi’s new eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The result is a remarkably quick 4.9-second run to 60 and a electrically-limited top speed of 155 mph.

The W12 will be the standard engine at launch, with a few diesel and petrol-powered engines available further down the line. We’d expect pricing for the A8 L to be revealed shortly after its official debut later this month, but in the meantime, make the jump for the full details.
