Is it possible to change the computer settings on an Audi A4 1997 if it revs too high?

This may or may not be a stupid question!! But I have an Audi A4 that REVs too high compared to other comparable… Is it possible (or even worth) changing/resetting the computer to help the gear ratios?
If its possible, is it best to get a mechanic to do the job or can any smart minded person do the job?

I am assuming that you are referring to the RPMs going higher than usual before your transmission shifts. If this is the case, there is nothing you can program. Unfortunately, there is nothing an Audi Technician can do to program it either. How do I know? I am an Audi Technician. We can code or perform adaptations, but we can’t reprogram those sort of parameters.
You could try altering your driving style too. When you get higher up in the RPMs, you can ease of the gas a little to get the trans to shift earlier. If this does not change anything there may be an electrical problem with your trans. Also you could check the kickdown switch. If it is stuck, the trans would be in a constant “kickdown state,” meaning it thinks you want to quickly accelerate and holds the gear higher into the RPM range.
