A helmet saves your head. So whether you are a new rider or an experienced one, in both of the cases you need to buy a helmet. Although you must be very excited about getting you new helmet but still before buying a helmet you must take care of few things.
The first thing that you should take care of is the D.O.T sticker on the helmet. U.S. Department of Transportation verifies the helmet’s strength for certain conditions and the amount of pressure and those who pass these tests get these stickers.
Secondly the helmet should be fit enough on your head. A lose kind of helmet cannot save you head in an event of crash. If you wear a right helmet for your head, you will feel some pressure of chinstrap on your chin. The upper part should also fit in perfectly to your head that it doesn’t hurt you.
The helmet should be comfortable enough. It is very important for long riders especially. Your Friends might keep on telling you that there is no such thing as comfortable helmet but I guarantee you that you will find a perfect helmet for you. It might take long, you may have to try different dealers and several brands but finally you will find a desired one.
If you want a real protection of your face and head than I would suggest that find a helmet which covers the maximum area. The more area covered by the helmet, the more secure it is. Recent studies have shown that riders having full covered helmets remain much safer in the crash as compared to riders wearing half cover helmets.
Also clearly check the face shield of the helmet. Your vision should be very clear through it. If the shield creates some problem in your vision then just start looking for any other helmet.
And if you are looking for some real advance type of helmet than ask the sales man to show you the helmet with Bluetooth modular. It’s compatible to work with cell phones, iPods and some other electronic devices.
