I’ve figured it out. If you turn the trip meter reset pin clockwise and anti-clockwise it adjusts the brightness of all the lights in the cab. Much better for night time driving.

Wow! 800000 miles. Are you sure you don’t mean kilometers? That is amazing. I have been thinking of getting a used B5 1.8T. Any advice of what to look out for where getting one? Thanks.

No, 180,000 miles not 800,000. It’s actually up to 215,000 miles and still going strong.

If I were buying another I’d make sure the cambelt had just been done as it’s an expensive job.
