Thanks for the video. This was an interesting way of replacing a wheel bearing and it is certainly handy in case you do not have access to a press. However, I would not recommend this method since it is quite easy to destroy the bearing. Believe me – I have destroyed three bearings myself and that is not fun when a wheel bearing costs around $100.

Good tip on welding to shrink it but an OTC Hubtamer will do this job complete in about 20 minutes with knuckle on the car! Tool is under $300 and will do just about any car with pressed bearings. You gotta find some brass drifts & throw away that ball peen hammer! No tapping hub in without supporting inner race! Sorry but this is painful to watch for top level mechanics.

Thanks for the comments. The guy helping me has 20 years experience with heavy machinery repair and knew what he was doing. He has never had a bearing fail with his method. Brass hammer would have been a better choice.

very cool trick , im no mechanic , but i know a little about welding . when that weld cools it shrinks and pulls bearing race loose with it , pretty slick
